20. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling What can I say? The Harry Potter series is great to read. In this book, the Chamber of Secrets is opened and wreaks havoc on the school. Some people think Harry is to blame and he sets out to find out the real secret of the chamber. There is a scene in the book where Harry and his friend, Ron, set out into the enchanted forest following the spiders. What they find, deep in the forest, is a colony of gigantic spiders who want to eat them. Very scary and they narrowly escape (thanks to an enchanted car). It literally gave me goosebumps reading this part. I have serious arachnophobia.
21. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling This is book three of the Harry Potter series and is the first that doesn't feature Lord Voldermutt as the main villain. The main theme of this book is the search for the escaped prisoner of Azkaban. In this novel, Harry learns more about his parents and discovers more of his powers. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, even though it twice as long as the rest.
22. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult (book club) This book is about a tragic school shooting. Jodi Picoult focuses on the events leading up to, the time during and after the tragedy. She delves into the mind of the shooter, those close to him, his parents, the lawyers defending the shooter, a judge and other students. I usually like Picoult books, but this one was hard for me to read. The subject matter was dark and depressing and the book began with the climax and didn't really become interesting again to me until the last 25 or so pages. It also seemed somewhat scattered. I would not recommend this particular book unless you are interested in reading about a school shooting. However, Jodi Picoult's book 'My Sister's Keeper' is an excellent story and would highly recommend reading it. (Or you can wait for the movie to come out later this year.)
